Mexico without stars: Jaime Jáquez Jr. and Juan Toscano-Anderson will not be in the duel against the Dominican Republic – La Opinion

Without Jaime Jáquez Jr. and Juan Toscano-Andersonthe Mexican basketball team will face this Friday and Monday next to that of Dominican Republic in the 2025 AmeriCup qualifiers.

Omar Quintero, Mexico coachrevealed this Wednesday the list of players with which Mexico will challenge the Dominican Republic and left out Jáquez Jr.the only Mexican in the NBA with the Miami Heat, already Toscano-Anderson, NBA champion in 2022 and that this Wednesday he announced his return to the Captains of the G-League, his two best basketball players who were on the pre-list.

According to the press release in which the call was revealed, Jáquez Jr. will not join the discipline due to his “commitment to the Miami Heat” and Toscano, who resigned from the Mexican team last year, no further details were released.

On the other hand, Quintero will have a roster commanded by the World Cup players Paul Stoll, Moisés AndriassiCaptain Gabriel Girón Jr., Gael Bonilla, Fabián Jaimes, Jorge Camacho and Israel Gutiérrez.

In addition, the coach continues with the renewal of a Mexico that closed a cycle in last year’s World Cup and to do so he will give the opportunity to Karim, 16 years old, and Raúl Olade, who receive their first call to the senior team.

The series against the Dominican Republic will begin with a visit from Mexico on Friday and will continue with a home game on Monday.

After challenging the Dominican Republic, Mexico will play the second round of the AmeriCup qualifiers in November, visiting Nicaragua and Canadaand the third window will be at home against these rivals in February 2025.

To qualify for the AmeriCup, Quintero’s team must be among the first two places in their group, Csince Nicaragua has its ticket assured by being the host of the fair.

In the last AmeriCup, played in Brazil in 2022, Mexico came in fifth place among 12 countrieswhile in the last World Cup it was the nation 25 out of 32.
