Released in 1999, “The Blair Witch Project” became an instant cult film thanks to its intelligent and innovative promotional campaign as well as its innovative production thanks to the found footage format. With just $500,000 in production and filming expenses, the film managed to raise $248 million, becoming the most profitable film in history until the release of “Paranormal Activity”.

However, despite tripling its budget of $15 million at the box office, the second film in the saga, “Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2”, did not achieve the same impact as its predecessor in addition to receiving mixed reviews and a lukewarm reception. It was not until 2016 that the saga was rescued under the command of the director Adam Wingard with a reboot that omitted what happened in “Book Of Shadows”.

Despite not being able to replicate the success of the original film, “Blair Witch” managed to raise just under $50 million dollars with a budget between $5 and $7 million dollars.
