A 43-year-old Oklahoma mother will spend the rest of her days behind bars for shooting her three teenage children in the head while they slept, killing two of them, which also led to a high-speed chase by authorities.

District Judge Ronald A. White ordered Amy Leann Hall serving two life sentences in a federal penitentiary for the 2018 murders of his son Kayson Toliver18 years old, and her daughter Kloee Toliver16 years old, the authorities announced.

She was also sentenced to an additional 20 years in prison for shooting her other 14-year-old daughter in the head, although the teenager managed to survive.

Hall’s three sentences will run concurrently, that is, at the same time. Under all federal sentences, Hall will have no chance of parole.

In November 2022 Hall pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and one count of assault with intent to commit murder. Prosecutors at the time said that if she did not accept the deal and the life sentence, they planned to dismiss the federal case against Hall so that state prosecutors could take charge of her and seek the death penaltyas reported by the Tulsa World.

Mentally unstable

“The horrible violence this family suffered was unimaginable and nothing will fix things,” U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma Christopher J. Wilson said in a statement..

“However, justice requires careful consideration of all the facts, including the interests of the surviving victim. Based on these considerations, the United States recommended that life imprisonment be imposed in this case,” he added.

Hall said she and the children’s father were separated and engaged in a custody battle that lasted two years.

In October 2018, the woman filed an emergency order requesting temporary sole custody of the children. In 2016, the father claimed that Hall was mentally unstable and psychologically abused children.

The crimes

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the crime occurred in the early morning hours of Nov. 1, 2018, at the family’s home on South 130 Street in Muskogee County, Oklahoma.

Investigators said Hall first entered Kayson Taylor’s bedroom and “shot him in the head while he was sleeping, killing him instantly”.

He then went to the bedrooms of Kloee Toliver and her 14-year-old daughter and similarly “shot them both in the head while they slept,” prosecutors said.

Emergency medical services found the 16-year-old girl unresponsive at the scene. She was taken to a hospital for treatment, but she never regained consciousness. She was pronounced dead four days after suffering her injuries.

An Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office deputy was the first to arrive at the scene. The officer saw Hall attempting to flee the scene in his vehicle.. After a chase that exceeded 110 mph, authorities were able to stop the woman’s car and take her into custody.

When she was arrested, she told police she was trying to “save” her children from their abusive father, adding that she also intended to commit suicide.

Prosecutors previously stated that they did not plan to seek the death penalty against Hall because it would only increase the pain and suffering of Hall’s surviving daughter, according to a report by KOTV, a CBS affiliate in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“This crime was heartbreaking and there is no doubt that the sentence is fair”FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge Edward J. Gray said in a statement. “It is absolutely heartbreaking to think that a mother could be capable of shooting her own children while they were sleeping.”
