Earthquake interrupts UN Security Council meeting in New York – La Opinion

The 4.8 magnitude earthquake that this Friday morning shook the states of New York and New Jersey momentarily forced the interruption of a meeting of the Security Council of the United Nations Organization (UN), which was taking place in Turtle Bay, Manhattan.

According to the report of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), The epicenter of the earthquake was located near Lebanon, New Jersey, about 46 miles west of New York.

Although the tremor caused surprise among the inhabitants of the area, since earth movements are usually imperceptible there, the authorities ruled out significant material damage or affected people.

While the earth shook, a meeting of its Security Council was taking place in the UN headquarters building, which is why several of those attending the event began to get nervous.

However, nothing serious seems to have happened, at least that’s what Kathy Hochul, governor of New York, reported through a broadcast message.

“My team is assessing the impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will keep citizens informed throughout the day,” he wrote on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.
