Pantera Nery assures that he will prove that he is the best against Naoya Inoue after first official meeting – La Opinion

Luis ‘Pantera’ Nery assured that he will show that he is the best against Naoya Inoue after being face to face for the first time before the fight that both will star in on May 6 at the Tokyo Dome in Japan and where the undisputed junior featherweight championship in the hands of the Japanese will be at stake.

During the first official press conference, Pantera Nery expressed that he did not travel to Japan to lose and made it clear that This confrontation with Inoue, who only has winning in mind, is the biggest one he will have in his 12 years of career.

“I’m going to have a great fight, show that I am one of the best in the world. I am not going to travel from Tijuana to Japan to lose, I come to show that I am one of the best Mexican fighters. Every time I get in the ring it’s like something magical, everyone disappears, there’s just me and my rival. I don’t care about the public either here or in Mexico, or anywhere, everyone disappears except my coach. “I feel calmer fighting in Japan because I don’t have friends, in Mexico all my friends are watching me,” he said.

“It is an honor (to fight in the Tokyo Dome), there will be many reflectors, it has not been used for such a big boxing fight in a long time, I think it will be the fight of the year in a great place. It’s the biggest fight I’ll ever have, it’s the biggest thing coming for me in the 12 years that I have been in my career,” he added.

It should be noted that Pantera Nery became the WBC’s number one contender after knocking out Azat Hovhannisyan in the 11th round last February in Pomona, California. Now the Mexican fighter will face the Japanese with the intention of becoming undisputed at 122 pounds.

Instead, Naoya Inoue moved up to the junior featherweight division and knocked out Stephen Fulton last June to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) belts. Five months later he repeated the result against Marlon Tapales to snatch the titles of the World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF), and add his second undisputed championship in different weights that he will defend for the first time against the Mexican.
