Police dress up as ‘Chapulín Colorado’ to arrest alleged thief – 24 Horas


“They didn’t count on his cunning,” is what some users commented when they saw that two police officers dressed up as the ‘Chapulin Colorado‘ to make a series of arrests.

This event occurred this weekend at a carnival held in the city of Sao PauloThis in Brazil.

Videos were spread through social networks of the moment in which the officers – already dressed as the iconic character, created by the actor and comedian Roberto Lopez BolañosChespirito‘- the alleged thieves were arrested.

The detainees – among them a young woman – allegedly stole the cell phones of some attendees at the carnival in São Paulo.

This peculiar way of dressing security agents is part of a strategy set up by the São Paulo Police to deal with pickpockets and cell phone thieves at large events.

Guilherme Melts -Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo- said that the “Chapulín Colorado” costume represents a ‘surprise factor’ and this allows “catching criminals in flagrante”, since doing it in the traditional way is complicated due to “the speed of action of this crime.”

And it is common to see at concerts, or massive events like a carnival, people wearing costumes or outfits that, although they attract attention, few would think that they are undercover police officers.

In this action by the officers, they managed to arrest four alleged thieves – between 21 and 38 years old – accused of allegedly stealing six cell phones.
