The main supplier of drugs and weapons to MS-13 in Honduras is extradited to the US – La Opinión


The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Wednesday an indictment against David Campbell, also known as Old Dan and Don David, 57, of Honduras, one of the main suppliers of narcotics and weapons to MS-13 in Honduras, for extortion, narcotics and firearms crimes.

Campbell was presented Wednesday before federal Judge Sarah Netburn in Manhattan federal court in New York, after having been extradited yesterday from Hondurasthe DOJ Office of Public Affairs reported in a commonnicated.

“Over decades, MS-13 has wreaked unspeakable violence in communities here in the United States and abroad,” said Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“With the arrest and extradition of MS-13’s alleged primary supplier of drugs and weapons, the Department of Justice is making clear that those responsible for flooding our communities with violence and deadly drugs will be held accountable in a U.S. court,” he said. Garland.

In addition to Campbell, the indictment also includes Yulan Andony Archaga Caríasalso known as Alexander Mendoza and Porky, 42, from Honduras, the top leader of MS-13 in Hondurasalready three additional MS-13 leadersJuan Carlos. Portillo Santos, also known as Juancy, 35 years old; Víctor Eduardo Morales Zelaya, also known as Cuervo, 49 years old; and Jorge Alberto Velásquez Paz, also known as Chacarrón, 41, for crimes of extortion, drug trafficking and crimes with firearms.

“Today’s extradition of David Campbell and the announcement of charges against four other MS-13 leaders for their alleged involvement in trafficking multi-ton loads of cocaine and for allegedly perpetrating egregious acts of violence in our communities is a testament to of the unwavering commitment of the men and women of the DEA to save lives and hold drug traffickers accountable,” said Anne Milgram.administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Campbell and Archaga Carías were previously charged in 2021 in a superseding indictment in federal court in Manhattan for the crimes of extortion, narcotics trafficking and firearms.

Later, Archaga Carías was included in the List of the ten most wanted fugitives from the FBI, the DEA Most Wanted Fugitives Listand on HSI’s most wanted list and the State Department offered a $5 million reward for information related to his arrest or capture. Portillo Santos and Velásquez Paz are detained in Honduras.

Archaga Carías and Morales Zelaya remain at large.

If convicted, Campbell, Archaga Carías, Portillo Santos, Morales Zelaya and Velásquez Paz face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a mandatory minimum sentence of 40 years in prison.
