The actor Tom Hiddleston gave a speech on behalf of the king Charles III during a charity gala in London, organized by The Prince’s Trust, reported Daily Mail.
The “Loki” star, who is an ambassador for the organization, participated in the “Invest in Futures” gala, in which he was in charge of being the voice of the British monarch, who has been absent from public events after reporting his diagnosis of cancer.
“Celebrating the global impact of this work is an achievement which, I must confess, I could not have dreamed of in 1976 when I started The Trust, using, at that time, my Royal Navy severance pay when I left the service to help the disadvantaged youth to reach their full potential. Its mission remains the same today: helping young people into secure, sustainable jobs and businesses, enabling them to build a brighter future.
Initially, I hoped that by supporting young people to develop their latent skills and find work or training, The Trust could perhaps help change some people’s lives for the better. “I am delighted to say that he has now worked with more than a million young people, helping them launch careers, launch businesses and re-engage with education,” the actor read on behalf of the sovereign.
According to the speech, the organization has not only helped young people in the United Kingdom, but has recently expanded to 23 countries.
The event, which took place in Belgravia on Thursday, is a key fundraising event for The Prince’s Trust’s Invest in Futures since its inception in 2005. Since its inception they have raised £24 million.
Tom was accompanied by his fiancee, Zawe Ashton. Other ambassadors from the organization in attendance included Joseph Fiennes, Jeremy Irons, Naomie Harris, Commander Tim Peake, Luke Evans and Myleene Klass.
Rod Stewart and Jools Holland livened up the evening by performing songs from their recently released album Swing Fever, before handing over to DJ Cuppy.
Just 24 hours before the reading of the letter, the actor had been photographed with Queen Camilla at Buckingham Palace, as he attended a reception for the finalists of the BBC’s 500 words.
