A woman convicted of killing a friend with eye drops will spend the rest of her life in prison.

Jessy Kurczewski40, was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of extended supervision after 30 years, for the murder of her friend Lynn Hernan in October 2018.

The Franklin, Wisconsin, woman was also sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison for two robbery convictions, five years each, to be served consecutively to the life sentence.

This means that the defendant will not be eligible for parole for 40 years.

According to the investigation, Kurczewski poisoned his 61-year-old friend with tetrahydrozoline, the main ingredient in the eye drops, to get 290,000 dollars that the victim had inherited from his parents.

He passed it off as suicide

The woman, who was listed as one of two beneficiaries in Hernan’s will, initially told investigators that the victim had an obsession with eye drops and had overdosed. He later alleged that Hernan had committed suicide.

On the day of the events, Kurczewski called the police from Hernan’s home in Pewaukee, saying that her friend was not breathing. Police found the 61-year-old woman dead with crushed medication on her chest and on a nearby plate.

Hernan’s body had several medications in his system, including a chemical found in Visine drops called tetrahydrozoline, according to toxicology reports. The Waukesha County medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

The defendant told investigators that He brought Hernan a bottle of water containing eye drops. dilutedclaiming that she didn’t think she was going to kill her friend because she had been drinking it for a long time.

“Justice has been served in the sentencing of Jessy Kurczewski,” said Deputy District Attorney Randy Sitzberger, adding that the sentence “reflects the seriousness of this crime” and shows that taking a life will not be tolerated.

For her part, Judge Jennifer Dorow described this case as “unusual” due to the length of the investigation, and the fact that the poison was in an over-the-counter product. She believes Kurczewski was counting on no one testing for tetrahydrozoline.
