This Friday the group stage of the Qatar 2022 World Cup ends. During the match between Uruguay and Ghana, 20 minutes into the game, the referee awarded a penalty in favor of the Africans. South American goalkeeper Sergio Rochet saved it and Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde burst out in jubilation and celebrated it to the head judge Daniel Siebert’s face.

An attack from Ghana ended in a play that had to be reviewed by VAR and later by Siebert, who after analyzing it on the monitors at the foot of the field sentenced the maximum penalty that would be saved by Rochet.

The way Valverde celebrates euphorically in the referee’s face is one of his trademarks, because at Real Madrid he usually does it the same way with goals. In this World Cup he was already seen putting it into practice.

In the debut match against South Korea, in the last ten minutes both nations were tied at zero and a move cut by ‘El Halcón’ ended in a throw-in and he celebrated it in the same way.

Possibly the gesture of the Uruguayan soccer player towards the referee was to show his disagreement with the opinion that he interpreted of the action that could have completely changed the panorama of the match.

It should be noted that Uruguay and Ghana played the qualification to the round of 16 in this last match. Those led by Diego Alonso were only worth the victory and that Portugal did not lose to South Korea.

The Portuguese team succumbed in the last minutes against South Korea with a goal in extremis that forced the Uruguayans to score a third against Ghana. This did not happen, as the South Americans enjoyed several opportunities and dominated the match, but were left out of the ecumenical tournament due to goal difference.

Portugal and South Korea advance to the round of 16. Those of Cristiano Ronaldo and company access as leaders of group H and the Asians in second place.
