He América defeated Atlético San Luis 2-1 with a Luis Ángel Malagón gigantic to preserve the advantage of the Eagles. The Mexican goalkeeper stopped several important balls and established himself as one of the best Mexican goalkeepers.
André Jardine, coach of América, commented that Malagón is responsible for América having a good defense and assures that he is up for greater responsibilities.
“Malagón had a very good performance. He is one of those responsible for us having the best defense, that’s how it should be with goalkeepers from the big teams, I don’t get involved in the national team issue, but Malagón looks better and better to assume greater responsibilities,” the coach stressed at the end of the match.
In the duel held at the Azteca Stadium, the Águilas struggled to create scoring chances in the first half. In the second half they scored with the Chilean Diego Valdés and the Uruguayan Brian Rodríguez. San Luis scored thanks to a penalty goal from Franck Boli.

Jardine applauded his team’s performance even though injuries to several regulars forced him to modify his starting eleven.
“The team responded with a logical performance, despite the changes we had due to injury. I didn’t like the last part of the first half because they created scoring chances,” he explained.
He also praised the reaction that his men showed in the second half.
“We corrected in the second half because we found the spaces to attack, we had variations that are products of training“Despite the great activity we have had, that is why the victory was very important,” he concluded.
With the victory, the Águilas reached 28 points to consolidate second place. The champion has eight wins, four draws and only one defeat.
On the fourteenth day of Clausura 2024, América will visit Santos Laguna on April 6.
