Belgian Federation takes action on transgender footballers

Belgian football will adapt its regulations regarding transgender and non-binary people starting next seasonso that those who have undergone a sex change will have to inform the Federation and request authorization to compete in the male or female category.

“All soccer players who have legally changed their sex or have undergone a transition They must inform the Federation. They will receive authorization to play (or continue playing) football in the category they wish,” the Royal Belgian Football Federation reported in a statement.

But to do this they will have to undergo an interview with a doctor and with a person in charge of the Federation’s integrity area, who based on these elements will decide whether or not to authorize the request.

“If a transgender woman (a person with a female gender identity but who was assigned the male gender at birth) wants to play football in the women’s leagues, you must explicitly request it and you will be granted a six or twelve month authorization or not,” the Federation explained as an example.
