Corpse Party is a legendary saga of horror visual novels made in Japan that began in 1996, with a first installment that was built with RPG Maker. After more than 20 years full of excellent titles, this beloved franchise will return in 2024 with a new project called Darkness Distortion. Although it had been previously announced, XSEED Games revealed today the first trailer for this anticipated sequel and it looks very interesting!
Corpse Party 2: Darkness Distortion comes out later this year!
XSEED surprised everyone with the surprise release of the first trailer for Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion. This exciting new installment full of horror, mystery and intrigue follows the story of 3 new characters: Haruka Nanami, Nemu Takanashi and Maria Hitsugi. These 3 teenagers enter the Amare Est Vivere Hospital to verify the existence of a local urban legend known as «The Mercy of Ayame», which unfortunately ends up being reality. When an ancient curse is activated, the three girls must escape and hide in the hospital to avoid the wrath of Ayame’s vengeful spirit.
The main selling point of this new installment is its stylized 3D graphics, since we will have complete control of the three protagonists to explore every corner of the hospital, both in first and third person. This new 3D gameplay perfectly complements the visual novel elements characteristic of Corpse Party, which will give us terrifying moments full of gore and blood. Even the audio was designed to give the player chills. The truth is that the enormous evolution of this iconic franchise is more than evident in this surprising new installment. Darkness Distortion will have quite a bit of content, with 6 chapters and 8 additional scenarios.
However, it is more than evident that Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion is still in an early stage of its development, due to the brevity of the gameplay images in this trailer and the fact that they have a filter that makes them look somewhat blurry. . Although we hope that XSEED will continue to reveal things about this new installment over the coming months, since they also confirmed that it will be released in the season of Fall 2024 (Or Spring, in the southern hemisphere) which means that it will be released in the last months of the year. It will be available for Playstation 4, nintendo switch and PC.
But that is not all because, in addition to the Standard Edition which will cost $50, XSEED Games also revealed the Merced Edition by Ayamewhich will cost $70 and will include: A metal medical box from Amare Est Vivere Hospital, a 64-page art book, an LED candle-shaped lamp with blue fire, a beautiful lenticular art card, a copy of the game and a «Evidence Kit» which contains real versions of different game elements, such as diary pages or hospital flyers.
