Fernando Gago’s project in Chivas collapses: they fall 2-1 with León and add the third consecutive defeat – La Opinión

It was of little or no use to Chivas del Guadalajara that “Chicharito” Hernández started their first game in Liga MX, after 14 years of not doing so, since in the final count Guadalajara fell 2-1 with León. To give the impression that the project of the Argentine coach Fernando Gago in the Sacred Flock is about to collapse, in a duel corresponding to date 11 of the Clausura 2024 tournament held at the Akron Stadium.

An unexpected defeat, painful because of everything that was expected from the Guadalajara team’s reaction after the last two and painful exhibitions against Cruz Azul and América. Above all, it is last with its staunch rival in the middle of the week in the Concachampions tie.

But instead of seeing improvement, of being motivated by having international Javier Hernández on the field, the team once again showed serious doubts that Uruguayan Jorge Bava’s squad took advantage of to add the fourth victory of the Clausura 2024 championship.

The truth is that the message from Argentine coach Fernando Gago in the technical area of the Chivas bench was the clear message that something is not going correctly. Gago seemed distraught, uncomfortable, sometimes incredulous that he couldn’t believe how in less than ten days his team has lost the compass that has him with the return ticket to Argentina in hand.

Fernando Gago with the saint on his back

Coach Fernando Gago thought that the presence of Javier Hernández with Cade Cowell would give the spark and offensive force to the Sacred Flock and the idea was not wrong, since the former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward, among other teams, had the strength to put the low team of the Leonese in predicaments.

But León was the one who changed the course of the match by scoring the first goal from a penalty in the 32nd minute through Uruguayan Federico Viñas on a penalty committed by Jesús Orozco Chiquete.

That goal put Chivas against the wall and from then on they were never able to recover, generating the anger of the fans to the point that the Mexican-American Cade Cowell was booed. To make matters worse, in the 82nd minute, José Alvarado made it 2-0, leaving Chivas with his heart open to the sun, and not even Roberto “Piojo” Alvarado’s last-minute goal saved Chivas from the disaster.
