Lincoln Memorial, USA

The Lincoln Memorial is a US national monument designed to honor the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who was assassinated by an assassin on the day of his inauguration. It stands on the west side of the Mall in Washington, D.C., and is in the shape of a monumental temple. The architect of the memorial was Henry Lincoln.

The location of the memorial is near the heart of downtown Washington, D.C. Several public parks surround it, as well as privately owned buildings. Many people visit the memorial each day, but it is considered a particularly somber place because of its proximity to the spot where Lincoln was assassinated. Its location also means that thousands of visitors each year must walk over or around it to reach the museum. Many do not like this, calling it an unnecessarily elaborate and lengthy walk.

There are two entrances to the Lincoln Memorial; one on the north side by the Lincoln Memorial Fountain and one on the south side by the Potomac River. A smaller entrance is also close to the museum. There are also exhibits on Lincoln’s legislative career.

Most visitors to the museum are not able to stand directly in front of the statue of Lincoln because it is often too heavy. Some have to crane their necks to get a good look at it. Others simply walk back to see the statue from a different angle. Still, others use a wheelchair to get a better view of it.

One way to increase the flow of visitors to the area is to have activities outside the museum in the surrounding streets. Lincoln Park is an example of such planning. On certain days of the week, there are free children’s events and musicians in the park. Other visitors can check out the Lincoln Memorial fountain or visit the Science and Environmental Science Center. The visitor center has a great display of Lincoln’s legislative career.
