Louisiana man admitted to the crime of a young woman he met online and whose body he dismembered and threw into a river – La Opinion

The death of a 19-year-old woman from New Iberia, Louisiana, is linked to a 29-year-old man she met online.

The young woman Sheryl M. Turner She was last seen by her family on December 31, 2023, before traveling to the home of Anthony Pierce Holland Jr. in West Monroe, the Catahoula Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The two “began a romantic relationship over text messages,” and Turner told her family that she was going to stay with him, reported the West Monroe Police Departmentwho collaborated in the investigation.

But Turner’s phone stopped receiving calls and messages on January 2. Almost three weeks later, on January 24, Catahoula authorities received a call about a body floating in the Ouachita River.

“Officers recovered the body and it was discovered that the remains were just a torso. There was no head or limbs connected to the body. The remains were sent for an autopsy and the findings led to the case being classified as a homicide,” the report states.

He finally confessed to the crime

With the help of a DNA sample from her twin sister Sherry, the remains were identified on February 23 as those of the missing young woman.

Through “forensic data and surveillance,” Holland Jr. was considered a suspect in the caseand the West Monroe Police Department executed a search warrant at his home on April 23.

“Forensic evidence of a violent crime was obtained during search warrants at Holland’s property. In subsequent interviews with Holland, admitted to killing Turner inside his home”stated the Catahoula Sheriff’s Office.

In addition to detailing that he dismembered Turner’s body inside his home, Holland stated that placed the remains in a body of water that flowed into the Ouachita River. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on a charge of second-degree murder.
