Eight teenagers, one seriously injured, rescued from an abandoned missile silo in Colorado – La Opinion

Authorities said one teenager was seriously injured and another was charged with trespassing after first responders rescued them and another young man from an abandoned missile silo in Colorado.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said 18-year-old fell about 30 feet into underground silo near town of Deer Trail around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

The high school student and his friends gained access by crawling through a broken door at the entrance to the silo, according to a Press release published on social networks.

Around 6 in the morning, two friends of the victim were rescued from the silo and stayed with him until help arrived. Thirty minutes later, rescuers reached the injured young man.

He was removed from the silo at 8:30 a.m. and taken to hospital by Airlife Denver with “serious injuries.”according to the police.

Along with the three teenagers who were inside the underground silo, there were also five other minors who were found by the authorities on the surface. The group was made up of both boys and girls.

From them, An 18-year-old who was inside the silo was cited for third-degree criminal trespass.. The injured victim, who is expected to survive, may also face charges.

Authorities released the other teens to their parents, but they could also face criminal trespassing charges. Investigators say everyone involved attends Cherry Creek Schools high schools, which are located in the Denver metropolitan area.

Local television station FOX31 Denver learned that the silo has been abandoned since the 1960s. Rescuers described the site as a “disaster” with “twisted metal, collapsed floors and chunks of concrete everywhere.”

There was no cell phone signal at the silo and a rescuer told FOX31 that the injured teen is “lucky to be alive.”

Firefighters from Sable Altura Fire, Bennett-Watkins Fire, South Metro Fire Rescue, Agate Fire Rescue and Deer Trail Fire Rescue also responded to the scene to assist in the rescue.
