Luis Enrique changed Kylian Mbappé in a draw for PSG and warned: “He will play when he thinks it is appropriate” – La Opinion

The technical director of Paris Saint-Germain, Luis Enrique considers it important to get used to what the team’s future will be like without its main star, Kylian Mbappé. So this Sunday the strategist gave a demonstration of how he is preparing for when that moment arrives, a decision that generated a bit of controversy.

In the draw achieved this Sunday by PSG against Stade de Rennes (1-1), the Spanish coach made the decision to replace the team captain in the 65th minute when the Gauls were down on the scoreboard as a result of the score of Amine Gouiri (m.33). A saving penalty in the 97th minute prevented defeat for the Parisians.

It is not the first time that Kylian Mbappé is not in action for 90 minutes with PSG. The attacker had already been a substitute in the last matchday of Ligue 1 where PSG is the absolute leader after 23 games, they beat Nantes (0-2). On that occasion, the French star entered in the 62nd minute for Marcos Asensio and ended up scoring a penalty goal (m.78).

“Sooner or later, sooner or later, this is something that is going to happen and we have to get used to playing without Kylian. When is he going to play? He will play when he sees fit. This is something that happens with all coaches.”Luis Enrique explained in the post-match press conference his decision to replace Mbappé to make way for Gonzalo Ramos, who scored the tying penalty.

This position of the PSG technical director is a product of the decision made by Kylian Mbappé to leave the Parisian team at the end of this season when your current contract ends. The forward will continue his career in another team outside of France with Real Madrid as the main favorite to acquire his services, according to various reports.

That is why Luis Enrique wants to maintain the level within PSG even though he is aware that he will not be able to continue counting on his top figure. “I want maximum competitiveness for next season. I want all the PSG starting players to think that it is a great opportunity. “That’s what I’m looking for next season.”he assured.

Regarding the draw against Stade de Rennes, which ended a streak of three victories that PSG had in the French championship, the Spanish strategist considered that it was a fairly disputed match from which they left with a more than deserved result.

“It has been a complicated game from the beginning. We were much more imprecise than normal, with less inspiration. But I liked the team’s attitude, especially under pressure (being down on the scoreboard). In the second half, in general, it was difficult for us to create chances, but in the end I think we deserved the result.”said.
