McCanna Anthony Sinise, son of the actor Gary Sinisedied at the age of 33, after a long battle against a strange spinal cancerrevealed a statement from his father’s foundation.

“Like any family who experiences a loss like this, we are heartbroken and have been handling it as best we can. As parents, it is very difficult to lose a child.

My heart goes out to everyone who has suffered a similar loss and to anyone who has lost a loved one. We have all experienced it in some way. Over the years, I have met many families of our fallen heroes. It is heartbreaking and very difficult,” the publication reads.

Mac was part of the Gary Sinise Foundation, a charity created by his father.

In 2018, Moira Sinise, wife of Gary Sinise, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Later, on August 8 of that same year, Mac Sinise was diagnosed with chordomawhich results in an immensely rare cancer that originates in the spine and has a 30 percent chance of returning after the tumors are removed.

Although the boy’s mother quickly recovered from the disease, thanks to numerous chemotherapies and an operation, Mac had problems with an infection in 2019, in addition to showing signs that his illness continued to spread.

According to testimonies from the actor who plays Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump, his son used to always be eager to continue contributing to the foundation, in addition to always showing a smiling and happy attitude.

The young drummer progressively lost his motor skills to walk and play instrumentsso after graduating from the USC Thorton School of Music, he began the project, in the company of composer and arranger Oliver Schnee, of a piece of music called “Arctic Circles.”

“You’ll see the focus on Mac and his inspiring music, all brought together during these last few months of his life, while always focusing on what he could do and never what he couldn’t do. “Mac was living a dream and making it a reality with his working partner, Oliver,” Gary said in his tribute letter.

“I feel very blessed, lucky and proud to be his father,” he added.
