Last week, the MB announced the opening of an investigation into Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhara for being linked to a betting case that raised controversy about the Dodgers star.
Rob Manfred, commissioner of the MLB, reported that they are investigating the claims made by Shohei Ohtani Last Tuesday. The Japanese claimed that he had been scammed and deceived by his translator.
“Given the way the story unfolded, it’s important to assure our fans about the integrity of the game that we verify the things Mr. Ohtani said, it’s really that simple,” Manfred said Thursday.
Manfred stressed that the MLB will have to find a way to carry out the investigations because the federal authorities are also handling the case on their own.
“It is really difficult for federal authorities to fully cooperate with us when they have their own investigation going on, so I think we will have to proceed on our own here,” Manfred said. “We never have the kind of authority that the authorities have, but we managed to carry out these investigations and find the factsand I’m sure we will in this case.
“I hope it’s short, but I don’t know.”
