The victory of the Águilas del América against the Tigres de la UANL on Saturday night at the Azteca Stadium (2-0)left a bad taste in the mouth of the goalkeeper of the feline team, Nahuel Guzmán, who, beyond the goals against, complained about being the victim of homophobic chants from a particular group of fans.

It was a female group that was present at the Mexico City stadium for the match corresponding to matchday 11 of the 2024 Clausura Tournament, just one day after marches and celebrations were held around the world to commemorate International Women’s Day. Women on Friday, March 8.

During the match, which was defined with the goals of Javairo Dilrosun and Alejandro Zendejasthe Argentine goalkeeper expressed his annoyance at having received several homophobic shouts from the group of women who were at the north end of the venue every time he touched the ball.

The Tigres goalkeeper approached a TUDN reporter to express his annoyance at the chants against him, a moment that was recorded in a video that quickly went viral on social networks where the Argentine goalkeeper is seen exchanging words with the journalist.

“It’s very funny that we are with the message for equality and the entire female group making the homophobic cry. Don’t you think it’s a bit inappropriate?”commented the 38-year-old player who was also intoned: “That’s not a goalkeeper, that’s a cabaret bitch.”

It is worth remembering that this shout is prohibited by FIFA both in the Mexican championship matches as well as in those of the Mexican National Team, after it became a custom in each match when the goalkeepers of the visiting teams touched the ball, especially in goal kicks.

According to the TUDN report, in the Azteca Stadium there was also a group of fans above the space where the group of women who, according to Nahuel Guzmán, dedicated the unpleasant chants to them were located. It will be up to the FMF to carry out an investigation.

As part of the commemoration of International Women’s Day, the Águilas del América not only dedicated a space in the stadium to receive the women but also painted the nets of the two goals with pink in addition to showing off a badge on the uniforms that they used that day.

With that victory, the Águilas del América momentarily rose to the top of the Clausura 2024 Tournament classification with 24 points, two more than Monterrey, Cruz Azul and Pachuca, with the Rayados being the only ones with one less game. For their part, the Tigers dropped to seventh place with 18 points.
