Investigators believe Jonathon Candy, 42, shot and killed his wife Lindsay Candy, 39, their children Dylan Candy, 18, Ethan Candy, 14, and Lucas Candy, 12, before killing himself. .

A fourth child, 10 years old, was in the house but was unharmed. He woke up Monday morning and discovered what had happened to his family, according to Sergeant Gary Knight.

“Investigators determined that sometime overnight the husband and father of the house, Jonathon Candy, was involved in an altercation with his wife, Lindsay. At some point, he armed himself with a gun, shot her several times and killed her. At that moment, He systematically went through the house, shot and killed his children“he said in a press conference cited by The Oklahoman.

Knight said police do not know why the younger child was unharmed, but he was released to relatives at the scene.

Investigators found no signs of a struggle. Knight noted that at least one of the children was shot in bed.

“It’s unclear what made him want to go to the house and kill the children, but make no mistake, what happened at that residence was nothing short of a massacre,” Knight added.

The officer noted that police found no prior calls to the residence or reports of domestic violence.

The house is located within the Oklahoma City limits, between Yukon and Mustang.

Ethan and Lucas Candy were Mustang Public Schools students, while Dylan Candy is a 2023 Mustang graduate, according to information released by the school district on Monday.

School Superintendent Charles Bradley said, “We are shocked and our hearts are broken; “This tragedy simply defies understanding.”

“It is with great regret that I share very sad news with all of you. We confirmed that a tragedy occurred at a home within our District, and we can now confirm the deaths of two of our students (a sixth grade student who attends Meadow Brook Intermediate and a ninth grade student who attends Mustang High School) along with a recent MPS Graduate (2023),” Bradley said in a statement Monday.

“As the Mustang school community processes this news, we would like to inform you that Mustang Public Schools students have access to counseling. To utilize these services, students/families simply need to contact their counselor or school administrator, he added.
