The Dominican second baseman Robinson Canowith 17 seasons of experience in the Major Leagues, was announced this Friday as reinforcement of the Red Devils of Mexico for the 2024 campaign of the Mexican Baseball League (LMB).
In a press release, the Devils, top winners of the LMB with 16 titles, announced the signing in a press release in which They highlighted the career of the former New York Yankees player.
In the 17 campaigns that the man born 41 years ago in San Pedro de Macorís spent in Las Mayores, he connected 335 home runs, drove in 1,306 runsleft a hitting percentage of .301 and won the 2009 World Series with the Yankees.
He spent nine seasons with New York, after which he played five seasons with the Seattle Marinersthree with New York Mets and partially with San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves until 2020 was suspended 162 games for failing a doping test, a second sanction after he was out for 80 games in 2018 for testing positive for the use of a diuretic frequently used to mask the appearance of banned substances in urine tests.
Along with his time in the Major Leagues, Canó is a regular with the Dominican baseball team, which he has represented in the World Classic in the 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2023 editions and in the Caribbean Series.
Canó comes from playing with the Eastern Stars of the Dominican League and in the Caribbean series with the Licey Tigers and in total he participated in 32 games, 24 of them in the league and the rest in the regional tournament, with 28 hits.
The Red Devils will debut in the 2024 LMB season on April 11 next, but first they will receive in Mexico City in a pair of exhibition games against the Yankees on March 24 and 25.
