Two police officers and a suspect have been killed in a shooting that occurred Sunday night in Syracuse, a city in upstate New York.the authorities reported.

Syracuse Police Chief Joseph Cecile said in a Press conference that around 07.00 pm local, two agents “tried to stop a suspicious vehicle at a checkpoint” that fledindicates the CBS network.

The agents “lost sight of the vehicle” but They were able to “track him to an address in the nearby Liverpool neighborhood” through his license plate.

According to Cecile, shortly after 8:00 p.m. local time, Syracuse officers and agents from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office went to where the suspect vehicle was located and found weapons inside, according to the US network.

The police officer and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputy were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where life-saving measures could not prevent both from dying from their injuries. Neither has been publicly identified.

The suspect also died after being taken to the hospital.

“Tonight we lost two heroes, men who answered the call of duty and put on the badge to protect the community,” Syracuse Police Chief said.

Cecile specified that one of the officers who was murdered had around three years’ experience on the job.

Sheriff Tobias Shelley said the deceased deputy was experienced, well-liked and “just a great guy.”

“It’s a dark day for Syracuse. This is our worst nightmare come true. Our thoughts right now are with the families of those two officers, those heroes,” Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said at the news conference.
