The 24th edition of the Havana Film Festival NY is an opportunity to celebrate Hispanic cinema, with its different stories and in El Diario de NY we show you which productions emerged victorious at the gala.

At the ceremony that took place at the Quad Cinema in Manhattan, awards were given to the most outstanding actors and actresses, as well as the screenwriters in charge of creating the different films.

The list of winners of the Havana Film Festival was distributed as follows:

Havana Star Prize for Best Film goes to Heroico by David Zonana (Mexico)

Best Director: Carolina Markowicz for Toll (Brazil)

Best Actor for Jhon Narváez for his role as Joe Arrollo in Rebelión (Colombia)

Best Actress for Lola Amores from Una Noche con los Rolling Stones (Cuba)

Best Screenplay for Josué Méndez from El Caso Monroy (Peru).

Special Mention from the Jury to Memento Mori by Fernando López (Colombia).

Who was the jury in charge of the selection?

In a press release from the organization of the event they indicated that in the Fiction category it was made up of Maria Linares, the Colombian film music composer; John David West, the American actor and Breixo Viejo, professor at the Herbert School of Communications at Hofstra University, specialist in film history.

The evaluators of the documentaries were: Ana María Hernández, professor of Latin American Studies at LaGuardia Community College; the Argentine filmmaker Juan Pablo Cadaveira; and the actor and editor Christian López-Lámelas.

Diana Vargas, artistic director of HFFNY, spoke about the importance of this festival: Furthermore, these fiction films and documentaries took viewers to new worlds, exploring musical, artistic, social and political themes in inventive and challenging ways..

Films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Panama and Uruguay participated in the production.
