Julio César Chávez Jr. attended the preliminary hearing in Los Angeles court where he faces three charges of possession of illegal weapons and The judge maintained the Mexican’s guilty accusationso on May 13 the charges will be read.

According to Ricardo López Juárez, journalist from La Opinión, the defense led by lawyer Michael Goldstein will seek dismiss charges against the son of the Mexican Grand Champion for mental health diversionsince Chávez Jr. was going through addiction and depression problems at that time.

“I felt a little nervous, of course, but I think everything is going well. It is known everywhere that he was not completely well and then he never did anything wrong.. And thank God everything is going well now. I was the one who wanted to call (the police) because I felt bad and let’s just hope that everything turns out well and life can continue,” he declared after leaving the hearing.

Upon his arrival at the court with his lawyer, Julio César Chávez Jr. looked very good and optimistic. The boxer stated that what happened is not pleasant at all and he knows it was wrong, but he showed himself grateful for the opportunity to be in the rehab program and be clean.

“The important thing is that I am clean, I am fine. I feel very happy and I want to continue like this because I was given an opportunity that is not given (to anyone). Yes (hit rock bottom). I think that what happened is something that is not pleasant at all and I think it was wrong, so I feel good, I feel happy. I was given a great opportunity and I was able to solve it,” she expressed to the media present.

Julio César Chávez Jr. is in a rehabilitation center after being detained at his Los Angeles residence for carry an assault rifle, as reported by TMZ Sports. The weapon that was seized is a “ghost,” that is, it is not traceable within the databases of police corporations, since it does not have a serial number, nor is a background analysis required to purchase it.

At the hearing with the judge on January 11, Chávez Jr. pleaded not guilty and the judge ordered him to pay bail of $50,000. In addition, he demanded that the son of the Mexican Grand Champion must immediately enter a rehabilitation program due to his problem of addiction to weight loss pills, where he is recovering satisfactorily.

Julio César Chávez Jr., 38, was the former World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion in 2011 and last fought in December 2021 when he defeated David Zegarra. The son of the Mexican Grand Champion has a professional record of 53 wins (34 by knockout), 6 losses and one draw.
