With a header goal from Lindsey Horan, the team of The United States defeated Brazil 1-0 this Sunday and became champion of the first edition of the women’s soccer Gold Cup.

Horan opened the scoring in the 45th minute in the match played at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California (USA), with a powerful header that beat the Brazilian goalkeeper Luciana, after taking advantage of a free throw assist from Emily Fox.

In an even match, the Americans and the Brazilians fought to win the first Women’s Gold Cup title that remained in the hands of the locals thanks to Horan’s goal.

Brazil tried to surprise the Americans, but missed the mark and although the Canarinha defended well and closed spaces, they could not open the scoring and the Stars and Stripes team knew how to take advantage of that.
