The Yankees of New York will have two exhibition matches against the Diablos Rojos de México and for Víctor González He represents something special, since he was trained at the Red Devils Academy.

González will be part of the team that will travel with the Bronx Bombers for the two-game series which will be held on March 20 and 21.

The left-hander commented how special it will be for him and his family to be able to share in the place that opened the doors to him in baseball.

“For me it is special to go there and play against the team that gave me the opportunity to ‘sell myself’ as they say, to the United States, so it’s going to be incredible for me and my family,” said González, who is originally from Tuxpan, in Nayarit, on the Mexican Pacific.

The pitcher began his career in the MLB in 2012 when he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and managed to debut in the 2019 season. With a World Series ring in 2020, he went from the Dodgers to the Yankees and will be an important arm in the New York club’s bullpen.

Víctor González and his move from Los Angeles to New York

“It was incredible to go from a great organization to another like the Yankees. I hope to play a great role, reach the playoffs and the World Series, I want the fans to remember me as a Mexican who made history in a great team,” González said in a teleconference.

Víctor González has worked during spring training to earn a spot in the Yankees bullpen under manager Aaron Boone. The Mexican commented that he is ready to give everything for the team.

“I will be ready to pitch two or three innings, whatever I can contribute I will be available to the manager.”added the pitcher, who will have in his favor being accustomed to pitching at the altitude of the Mexican capital.

For the Mexican pitcher, having games in Mexico is a great opportunity for those fans who cannot attend a Major League match.

“There are many people who don’t have money to come see a game here, that makes it special and motivating to be able to go there,” he added.

Finally, the Mexican once again thanked him for the opportunity to be able to join the Red Devils of Mexico and begin the path to being in the Major Leagues.

“I want to thank them for the opportunity they gave me to be able to leave (the organization). I am grateful,” González added. “That’s why going to play there against that team makes it very special.”
