There will always be one last time and for defender Héctor Moreno, The last occasion with the Mexican National Team uniform came this day when he announced his retirement from the national team, leaving behind him a legacy of four World Cups and 132 international matches.
Moreno with an enviable career, where he went from less to more since his appearance as a professional player in the team U17 World Champion in 2005, He could have been a respected player in the national team with important competitions in the World Cups in South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2018.
The Mexican center back undoubtedly became an outstanding player in his position and after his time at UNAM Pumas he emigrated to European football to participate in AZ Alkmaar, a squad that paid four million dollars in 2008.
From that season on, he managed to maintain a high level that allowed him to defend the shirts of Espanyol de Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, Roma de Italia and Real Sociedad. From there he had a brief stint in Qatar football with the Al Gharafa team, playing 35 games and then returning to Liga MX with the Rayados de Monterrey.

Héctor Moreno, in a conversation with TUDN television, confirmed his decision to leave the national team. after a talk he had with the director of national teams Duilio Davino.
“Last year I had a call with Duilio Davino, With the call he asked me my position towards the national team… I expressed my decision to no longer return to the national team,” said the former World Cup player.
Moreno revealed that his contractual situation with Rayados de Monterrey had a lot to do with his decision, which ends in mid-2005 and he is not sure if he will continue with Rayados or any other team.
“I simply have a year and a half on my contract, I probably don’t know if by 2026, which is the World Cup, I will still be playing, so it would be cheating on myself and taking the job away from people who can get started.” commented the Mexican center back.
Héctor Moreno is aware that there is a generation of players like Johan Vázquez, César Montes, Víctor Guzmán, Jesús Orozco Chiquete, Edson Álvarez and Ramón Juárez, among others who will seek to be the basis for the 2026 World Cup team.
