Boeing announces resignation of its CEO after series of air safety incidents – La Opinion


Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun announced this Monday that he will leave his position at the end of this year, an exit that comes after the crisis opened in the company due to the incident on board an Alaska Airlines flight last January.

“I want to share with you that I have decided that this will be my last year as CEO of our great company and I have notified the board of directors of that decision,” Calhoun said in a statement.

A text that begins, precisely, by mentioning the incident that happened in January, when a panel that covered the space for an emergency door of a Boeing 737 Max-9 of the Alaska Airlines airline detached in mid-flight.

“As everybody know, The crash of Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 was a defining moment for Boeing. We must continue to respond to this accident with humility and total transparency,” he noted.

The crisis experienced by Boeing, the second largest commercial aircraft manufacturer in the world after the European Airbus, began five years ago when two 737 Max-8s crashed in similar circumstances in October 2018 and March 2019causing the death of 346 people.

“The eyes of the world are on us and I know that we will emerge from this moment as a better company, taking advantage of all the learnings we have accumulated while working together to rebuild Boeing over the past few years,” said Calhoun, who had been CEO of the company. company since January 2020.
