High school teacher shot to death by her 14-year-old daughter in Mississippi – La Opinion

The police reported that A 14-year-old girl from Mississippi murdered her mother, who was also a teacher at her school, and shot her stepfatherwho was seriously injured.

The husband of Ashley Smylie, 40, a high school algebra teacher, found her shot to death Tuesday in their home in Brandon, east of Jackson, according to WLBT-TV.

After finding his wife’s body, Smylie’s 14-year-old daughter, Carly Madison Gregg, confronted him with a gun in her hand.

The man grabbed the gun from her, but the young woman managed to shoot him in the shoulder.according to police reports obtained by the media.

The teen then jumped over the backyard fence and ran away. Authorities located her soon after near her home and arrested her for murder and attempted murder.

The young woman appeared in court on Wednesday, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges. His bail was set at $1 million.

The young suspect reportedly attended Northwest Rankin High School in Flowood, where her slain mother was a teacher.

“Our deepest prayers and condolences are with our Northwest Rankin family during this difficult time. We love our Cougar family. You are not alone,” the city of Flowood said in a statement.
