Javier Aguirre is having a good season in Mallorca. Will play in the final of the Copa del Rey and he is close to ensuring his salvation, although this does not guarantee a renewal of his contract.

Alfonso Díaz, Business CEO of Real Mallorca, declared this Monday that the Mexican Javier Aguirre is “a great coach, who has given character to the team”, but did not want to talk about his possible renewal.

“Javier Aguirre is a great coach. He arrived two and a half seasons ago, at a very difficult time, but now we are focused on the League. He has said it publicly. It is important to be focused and not deviate from what it is to fight for salvation. We have to try to fight in the final for this Copa del Rey and when the season ends we will talk,” said Alfonso Díaz, who valued the Mexican’s work during this time in the Balearic team.

The leader focused on the fact that the important thing is the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Club Bilbao and then saving himself from relegation in Spain’s first division.

Mallorca tied with Valencia this last weekend and continues fighting just before facing Bilbao for the Copa del Rey.

“He came in a very complex situation, in which we were with one foot in the Second Division, with a very bad streak and he gave personality to the team. The first thing he did was give the team an identity and not concede goals. They understood it quickly. We have become a rocky team, difficult to beat and anyone we face will stand up to it. That is the basis,” he noted.

Mallorca is in 15th place in the table and is six points ahead of the last place that is going to relegation from La Liga.

With eight rounds left to play, the Vasco Aguirre team has salvation in its hands. To date, Cádiz, Almería and Granada are the three clubs that will go to the second division.

“With the budget we have, the team is above possibilities. The players give more than one hundred percent, they give their all and that is the character that Javier Aguirre has given,” he concluded.
