Real Madrid is close to a new league title. The meringues defeated Cádiz 3-0 and must wait for Barcelona to find out if they are La Liga champions.
The white team came out with several replacements thinking about the second leg against Bayern Munich for the Champions League semi-final. In addition, it featured the return of Thibaut Courtois after almost a year out due to a torn cruciate ligament.
Cádiz fell to Real Madrid and sinks in first place due to relegation to second place division with only four games left in the season.
Real Madrid with changes and playing well
Madrid came out with starters like Arda Güler, Brahim Díaz, Camavinga, Joselu, Courtois to face each other at the Santiago Bernabéu.
In the first half there were few dangerous chances other than an occasional shot from Éder Militao and a corner from Cádiz.
But in the second half, those in white played and improved their performance to find the goal.
Brahim Díaz, who was one of the best in the game, took advantage of a ball from Modric and in two moves he took a great shot to open the scoring in the 51st minute.
The Moroccan continues to be one of the team’s driving forces this season. After the goal, almost everything went to Real Madrid.
Cádiz had a one-on-one against Courtois and the Belgian excelled by bailing out and putting his body to keep the goal at zero.
Jude Bellingham came on in the second half and with only minutes on the field he had his goal. In a triangulation between Modric and Brahim, Bellingham gave the finishing touch to make it 2-0.
Courtois showed off again in the aggregate, and from the same play Nacho made a run after a pass from Vinícius and assisted Joselu, who only pushed it to make it 3-0.
Madrid waiting for Barcelona to celebrate the title
Real Madrid remains with 87 points, 14 points more than Barcelona in second place. If Barça draws or loses against Girona, Madrid will be La Liga champions with a four-day advantage.
Mallorca and Celta de Vigo will have the opportunity to escape from Cádiz in the fight to remain in the first division.
