The San Diego Padres want to compete in the 2024 Major League season and brought Dylan Cease, one of the best pitchers, in a multiple change with the Chicago White Sox.

Cease has played 5 seasons for the White Sox. He has 43 wins, 35 losses, a 3.83 ERA and 792 strikeouts.

In return, The San Diego Padres delivered three of the organization’s top prospects Drew Thorpe, Samuel Zavala, Jairo Iriarte and Steven Wilson.

“It’s hard to give up the names we gave up,” Padres general manager AJ Preller said. “We think highly of Drew Thorpe, Iriarte, Zavala and Wilson. But a guy like Dylan Cease “He was the right pitcher at the right time for this team.”

How much is Dylan Cease’s contract?

Dylan Cease will receive $8 million this season and will be under contract with the team in 2025.

Cease could seek a new contract for the 2026 season in free agency, although he has an exclusive tender option with the San Diego Padres.

The San Diego Padres will now have a rotation led by Michael King, Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove and Dylan Cease.

The team hopes that with this move they can compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks in one of the most difficult divisions in all of baseball.

San Diego will debut on March 20 against the Dodgers in Seoul, South Korea, for Opening Day.
