Authorities reported that A 14-year-old girl was killed and five other youths were injured during a shooting that broke out Saturday night in a parking lot in Buffalo, New York.several blocks from the supermarket where a mass shooting occurred in 2022.
The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. in Buffalo’s East Side neighborhood, police said.
The victims were in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Jefferson Avenue when they were shot, police said in a statement cited by ABC News.
The 14-year-old girl was found fatally injured at the scene and was taken to Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, where she was pronounced dead. according to the authorities.
Four other teens were taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center. One of the victims, a 15-year-old boy, was in critical condition Sunday and the other three injured boys were in stable condition, according to police.
A 16-year-old boy was grazed by gunfire but refused medical treatment at the scene.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting.
The Buffalo Police Department is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators.
The shooting occurred five blocks from a Tops supermarket where a racially motivated mass shooting on May 14, 2022 left 10 Black people dead and three other people injured.
