Stephen Sondheim’s former house sold for the expected price – El Diario NY

Four months ago, the mansion in Roxbury, Connecticut, that was the home of the late musical composer Stephen Sondheim for four decades.

The property entered the real estate market with a price tag of $3.25 million dollarsand it was recently reported that the sale closed on April 15 for the same list price.

According to ‘Mansion Global’, real estate agent Graham Klemm said: “The buyer is someone who knows the area and is making the step up to a larger home here.” He implies that the new owner isn’t even a fan or connoisseur of Sondheim’s work.

His ignorance and personal interests could even translate into a major renovation of the place, without respect for the composer’s original pieces. It must be remembered that Sondheim was the composer and lyricist of some of Broadway’s most iconic musicals.: ‘West Side Story’, ‘Gypsy’, ‘Follies’ and ‘Into the Woods’.

The great property occupies a 9 acre lot and its construction dates back to the 70s.

The main house is spread over two floors and has three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, foyer, living room, great room, music room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room and other amenities.

Currently the place maintains many of its original construction details. There is large windows, wooden floors and ceilings, exposed wooden beams and more. On the other hand, the master bedroom is quite spacious with its own living room, dressing room and bathroom with bathtub included.

The property also includes a pool house, a guest house and a garage with capacity for two vehicles.

All structures are surrounded by extensive green areas with large trees included. There is a terrace, dining room, swimming pool, spa area, walkways and other ideal spaces to enjoy the outdoors with family or friends.

This property was sold three years after Stephen Sondheim died.
