He also confirmed that the second Mario movie is already in production at the hands of Illumination Entertainment, the same animation studio that worked on the first one. Considering that Mario’s film quickly became the third highest-grossing animated film in history, everyone was waiting for a second to be announced. But it’s very good to have official confirmation.
Then the CEO of Illumination appeared on the screen, Chris Meledandriwho confirmed that the same directors of Super Mario Bros, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic They will return to direct the second. The same team of talented artists at Illumination Paris are already working on the storyboards for the new film. Finally, Meledandri announced the official release date: It will be released in American theaters on April 6, 2026, but it will also be released in the rest of the world around that same date.
