Will Smith made his return to television this Mondaywhen he appeared on ‘The Daily Show’ with Trevor Noah, since he slapped Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards last March, a subject he even talked about.

Smith has since apologized for the incident, but still he hadn’t sat down for an important television interview and discussed what had happened.

that was a horrible nightas you can imagine. It has a lot of nuances and complexities, you know, but at the end of the day, I just lost it. I guess what I would say is you never know what someone is going through. And I was going through something that night”, assured the winner of the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in ‘King Richard’.

He also said that he understood the pain he had caused and he remembered one particular moment: his nine-year-old nephew’s reaction that night.

“He is the sweetest boy. We got home and he had stayed up late to see his uncle Will his, and we were sitting in my kitchen, and he was on my lap and he was holding the Oscar, and he said to me: ‘Why did you hit that man, man?’ It was a disaster“, he said through tears.

During the Oscars ceremony in March, Will, 54, stormed onstage and slapped Chris Rock across the face after the comedian made a joke about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, having her head shaved. It is not known if Rock knew that Jada Pinkett suffers from alopecia.

On the other hand, the protagonist of ‘I Am Legend’ is preparing to return to the screens in the next Apple TV + movie, ‘Emancipation’, his first role since the most controversial incident of his long career and which will debut in select theaters this Friday before premiering on the streaming platform on December 9.
