Kenneth Paul Farler III

An Ohio man accused of shooting to death his 15-year-old daughter allegedly called 911 and blamed the murder on his autistic stepson, but police say the story doesn’t add up.

Kenneth Paul Farler III38, is being held without bail in the Montgomery County Jail on charges of involuntary manslaughter, weapons violation, probation violation and child endangerment, Dayton Municipal Court records show. .

Farler told police his stepson accidentally pulled the trigger.

The incident occurred last Sunday at 400 Bowen Street, according to the Dayton Daily News. In a 911 call, Farler allegedly told the operator that his stepson accidentally fired the gun..

“My stepson is autistic, he had no idea what he was doing, it was an accident,” he said. “She’s a girl,” Farler added to the operator. “I just heard a gunshot and I heard them screaming.”.

However, the investigation reveals that the victim was intentionally killed by Farler.

The victim asked me not to point it at him

Dayton Police Maj. Brian Johns told the Dayton Daily News that after further investigation, testing and interviews, it was determined that the statements made by Farler in the initial 911 call were false.

“The young woman was shot to death by her father inside the Bowen Street address”Johns told the outlet. “To say it was a tragedy is an understatement.”

Johns says the incident will remain under investigation, but with the evidence gathered so far, the shooting does not appear to be accidental in nature.

“Yes, we are still reviewing the evidence, so I would say it is not an accident. Even the victim was asking him not to point the shotgun at him before his death. “That’s not an accident,” Johns said.

Farler was previously arrested in October 2023 for pointing a laser at an Ohio State Highway Patrol helicopter, local television station WHIO reported, citing court documents.

Johns told the Daily News that he had been prohibited from carrying a firearm due to a prior drug trafficking conviction. He is expected to appear in court on April 17.
