Call of Duty: Warzone has just arrived on smartphones with the recent release of Warzone Mobilewhich has all fans of the classic FPS saga excited. Activision Blizzard. However, it was inevitable that people would start making comparisons with the other mobile title in the franchise, COD Mobilewhich was released in 2019. This generated a huge debate in Twitterfocused mainly on micropayments for both titles.
Is Call of Duty Mobile pay to win? Debate rages among fans
Although this debate has been present in several Call of Duty communities, on this occasion it was perfectly illustrated in a Twitter thread posted by the user @CGCODM. This compares the prices of two COD Mobile weapons to two Warzone Mobile weapons. While the first game has quite high costs, since they sell you the weapon and the skin together, the second has more reasonable prices, since they only sell you the skin for aesthetic reasons and nothing more. This led to a huge discussion among the players: Is COD Mobile pay to win?? Since, the more money you have, the better weapons you will be able to purchase.
Due to the high prices of COD Mobile, many Call of Duty fans claim that Warzone Mobile handles its micropayments in a much more reasonable way, since it focuses on aesthetics and does not give you more powerful items just for spending more money. As if that were not enough, the weapon design of both games has also been praised. While COD Mobile has regular guns with a special coat of paint on top, Warzone Mobile features completely unique weapons with original designs that look like something straight out of a fantasy or sci-fi video game. So there is also a clear difference between the aesthetic aspect of both titles.
But of course, these fantastic firearms are not to everyone’s taste. First and foremost, Call of Duty is a military combat franchise with some hyper-realistic elements. Defenders of COD Mobile claim that, despite the high prices of some of the weapons in that game, they all have more realistic designs and some are even classic guns that exist in the real world. While the Warzone Mobile skins seem “taken from an anime” and they wouldn’t fit with the overall aesthetic of the franchise. Although of course, this is more than anything a matter of personal taste and both types of designs can coexist in a game series as large as this one.
At the end of the day, COD Mobile and Warzone Mobile are two quite different mobile video games in many ways, which is why they both managed to cultivate completely different player bases, each with their own tastes and preferences. Plus, even if one of these titles is pay to win and the other isn’t, all that money ends up in Activision Blizzard’s hands anyway. Despite the division in the community, they still win.
