Four years later: 6 in 10 Americans believe the Covid pandemic is over – La Opinion

Four years after Covid pandemic will force widespread closures of businesses and schools across the United States59% of Americans believe the pandemic is over, according to an update made from March 5 to 11 from Gallup’s probability-based COVID-19 web panel tracking survey, which began in March 2020.

At the same time, approximately the same amount, 57% report that their lives have not returned to normal and 43% hope they will never return to the normality they had before the pandemic.

The national concern about contracting Covid is close to its lowest point in the trend dating back to the early days of the pandemic, although, as has been the case throughout the pandemic, Democrats express much more concern about Covid than Republicans.

The impact of the coronavirus on the public since it emerged as a global threat in 2020 is evident in the finding that 7 in 10 American adults report having had Covid at least once.

Republicans (79%) are almost twice as likely as Democrats (41%) to say that the pandemic is over, while 63% of independents agree.

The majority considers that pre-pandemic normality has not yet returned

Currently, 43% of American adults say their lives are completely back to normal and 57% say they have not.

That 57% includes 14% who believe their lives will eventually return to normal and 43% think that their pre-pandemic normality has disappeared forever.

Most Americans are not worried about contracting Covid: they already had it

Americans’ concern about contracting Covid is near its lowest point since the start of the pandemic.

Currently, 20% of American adults say they are very or somewhat worried about contracting Covid.

Concern was slightly lower than now in June 2021 (17%), before the attack of the delta and omicron variants, and in May/June 2023 (18%).

Concern about being a victim of the disease was greater (between 55% and 59%) at various times in the first year of the pandemic, before vaccines were available.

Americans’ concern about contracting the disease has decreased as an increasing number of Americans have developed antibodies as a result of infection or vaccination.
