Marlins and Dominican Baseball League agree to bring games to Miami – La Opinion

The Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (Lidom) and the Miami Marlins announced an agreement this Friday for the staging of various winter baseball events in the Caribbean nation at LoanDepot Parkhome of the Major League team.

The announcement of this strategic agreement was made at a press conference held this Friday at LoanDepot Park.

The meeting was led by Caroline O’Connor, president of business for the Miami Marlinsand Vitelio Mejía, president of the Dominican Baseball League, the entity that offered the details of the agreement.

Mejía was accompanied by the presidents and representatives of the six franchises that make up the Dominican league and the vice presidents of Lidom, Winston ‘Chilote’ Llenas and Alejandro Peña.

“This strategic alliance with the Marlins constitutes an important step to strengthen the Lidom brand. and the brands of its teams internationally, and contributes to the growth of professional baseball in the Dominican Republic,” said Mejía.

The leader added that this pact makes it easier to bring the action of winter baseball to the Dominican and Latin community residing in the state of Florida and surrounding areas, in addition to strengthening its relationship with the MLB.

Through the agreement, which will be valid until December 31, 2028 and may be renewed by mutual agreement between the parties..

LoanDepot Park will be able to host preseason, regular season, postseason, inaugural, interleague games, among others.

The Marlins have made public their desire to be the Latin team in the Major Leagues and this agreement allows them to have an association with one of the main Caribbean baseball leagues.

LoanDepot Park has already hosted the World Baseball Classic and the last Caribbean Series.

The final of the Caribbean Series that was played between the Tiburones de La Guaira (Venezuela) and the Tigres del Licey (Dominican Republic) received more fans than any other match in the history of the venue.
