Shooters on scooters shot a Hispanic man to death and injured four other people in New York – La Opinion

New York City authorities reported that Shooters riding scooters opened fire on a group of people on a Bronx street Tuesday night, leaving a Hispanic man dead and three other people injured.

New York City Police Department Deputy Police Chief Benjamin Gurley said the shooting occurred at the corner of East Mount Eden Avenue and Townsend Avenue in the Bronx after 6 p.m., when men aboard scooters stopped. At the intersection, they pulled out weapons and opened fire on those present.

Approximately 10 shots were fired in total, according to police.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the NYPD said three victims, ranging in age from 23 to 37, suffered gunshot wounds to the legs. While The fourth victim, identified as Miguel Doleo, 29, was hit in the chest and later died..

The New York police said they detailed that two of the men injured in the legs, 23 years old and another 37 years old, were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln, respectively. While another 31-year-old and the victim who died were taken to BronxCare Health System.

Police are still unsure if the shooting was gang related, Gurley added.

“The perpetrators used masks and hoodies to block their identities and then fled on scooters north on Townsend Avenue,” he said.

The deputy police chief said authorities had a man in custody, but investigators “are not sure if they are directly related to the incident.” The investigation remains ongoing.

Deputy Police Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said the police department has a Community Response Team that has been working in the Bronx since April 1 to aggressively target criminals on scooters.

The team is part of a broader effort to combat crime with smaller vehicles, taking 9,500 scooters, dirt bikes and ATVs off the streets since Jan. 1, including 2,500 in the Bronx.

The shooting in the Bronx comes just days after the NYPD said two officers were shot and killed during a vehicle chase of a suspect.

Police Officer Michael Jensen of the Syracuse Police Department and Lt. Michael Hoosock of the Onondaga Sheriff’s Office were killed on April 14.
