The Seattle Mariners defeated the Boston Red Sox 1-0 and added their first victory of the season that was sealed with a saved game by Mexican closer Andrés Muñoz.

Muñoz made his season debut in the ninth episode with only one run ahead of Boston. And he did it perfectly with three strikeouts against three batters.

The Mexican struck out Triston Casas on a 3-2 count with an 87.4-mile slider that left Casas cold.

Then he faced Cedanne Rafaela who swung three times and struck out. Munoz He used three sinkers that were between 98 and 99 miles per hour all hit the batter.

With two strikeouts and two outs, Muñoz used his sinker again. On a 2-2 count, he threw a 99-mile sinker to strike out Pablo Reyes and thus add the Mariners’ first victory of the season at T-Mobile Park.

The Mexican pitcher received the closer job this season and will look to add more saves than last season. Andrés Muñoz saved 13 games in 2023, so this year he could add 30 or more if he stays healthy.
