Canelo Álvarez assures that he is not interested in seeing Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul: “It’s more show than fight” – La Opinion

Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, undisputed super middleweight champion, assured that he is not interested in watching the fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul because in his opinion it is more of a show than a boxing match.

In an interview with YES Network, Canelo Álvarez explained that These types of events do not benefit the sport at all, although a platform like Netflix is involved, and that both Tyson and Paul can do whatever they want.

“I’m not at all interested in watching it, with Netflix involved, yes, that’s good, but not in that kind of fights, I think it’s more show than fight“said the champion of four weight divisions.

“Of course It’s not good for the sport, but they can do what they wantI don’t have much to say about it. Everyone has an audience, this is a different audience. Boxing fans are not going to see that (Tyson vs. Paul fight), it is for another audience,” he added.

It should be noted that the confrontation between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul has been harshly criticized due to the age difference between both fighters, since the YouTuber turned boxer is 30 years younger than the former heavyweight champion.

The exhibition fight between the two will take place on July 20 at AT&T Stadium (venue has a capacity of 80,000 people) from the city of Arlington, Texas, and will be broadcast exclusively on Netflix.

Mike Tyson has not entered the ring since he faced Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020, a fight that ended in a draw. Instead, Jake Paul comes from beating Ryan Bourland by knockout last March at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
