David Benavídez’s promoter prefers a fight with Canelo rather than a duel with Bivol or Beterbiev – La Opinion

Sampson Lewkowicz, promoter of David Benavídez, assured that he prefers to continue looking for a fight with Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez than a dispute for the undisputed 175-pound championship against the winner of Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev in Saudi Arabia.

In an interview with BoxingScene, Lewkowicz does not rule out that Benavídez may try to be crowned in the light heavyweight categorybut for now he is worried about what happens in the Canelo Álvarez fight in May and the Mexican Monster in June.

It’s very good that everyone is talking (about Benavídez). For me, I’m calm now. David just wants a five million dollar purse. He wants to win, become a star and then make money. For him now it’s not about money. It’s about legacy,” he said.

I am worried that (Canelo will win) on May 4 and (Benavídez will be victorious) on June 15. And then we can all talk,” he added.

It should be noted that Canelo Álvarez assured that the only way he will accept the fight with the Mexican Monster is that your promoter offers you a purse of $150 or $200 million dollars, but otherwise he has no interest in facing the Mexican American. For this reason, David Benavídez asked Turki Al-Alshikh for help to make this duel a reality, but the sheikh wants him to compete for the undisputed championship against the winner of Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev in December.

After being rejected again by Guadalajara, Bandera Roja decided to go up to 175 pounds to compete for the interim title of the World Boxing Council (WBC) against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15 in his debut in the category, two weeks after Bivol and Beterbiev decide who will be the new undisputed champion of the division and his possible next opponent.

Although he could be crowned the 175-pound king in December against one of the Russians, David Benavídez insists that he wants to get the opportunity to face the undisputed Mexican monarch and does not rule out going down to super middleweight again to defend his interim WBC title until the man from Guadalajara agrees to fight him.

For three years now, the Mexican Monster has been the mandatory challenger and has sought in every possible way to attract the attention of the four-division Mexican champion, but he has never had a response. Although fans and many experts in the sport would like to see this great fight, Canelo Álvarez has not shown any real interest and the WBC has not enforced the regulations to order this fight either.

David Benavídez, interim WBC super middleweight champion, defeated Demetrius Andrade by technical knockout in the sixth round and will now move up to 175 pounds. The Mexican Monster He has a record of 28 wins, 24 of them on the fast track and no setbacks as a professional.
