The Minnesota Timberwolves fired one of their analysts after discovering that he had stolen strategic information from the team.

The subject was fired, arrested and charged with felony third-degree theft after stealing thousands of files where there was also strategic information from the NBA, according to a criminal complaint filed on Wednesday and obtained by ESPN.

The person responsible is called Somak Sakar, 33 years old, and he was a technical analyst for the team. The detainee awaits a court hearing this Thursday where it will be determined if he will have bail and what his sentence will be.

A Minnesota Timberwolves team source reported that the team will not press charges against the former worker.

Sachin Gupta, executive vice president of the Timberwolves, who oversees the Minnesota team’s analysts, He claimed that he left a hard drive connected to one of his computers in his office at the Target Center, the Timberwolves’ stadium.

Three days later, Gupta noticed that the hard drive was missing. Sarkar was captured in the security camera videos entering the vice president’s office twice in which he saw if they could see him and then left.

Another employee of the organization obtained the hard drive, but noticed that the thief had accessed more than 5,000 files and had downloaded them to another device.

Sarkar was arrested on Monday. Police raided his house where he found several hard drives, a computer and three tablets.. In subsequent investigations, they noticed that one of the confiscated devices had information that had been stolen.

Sarkar stated in front of police officials that he had the hard drive for his work and that “he was adding some things.”

The complaint stated that Sarkar had been transferred out of Gupta’s department in August 2023. and to the coaching staff due to their poor work performance.
