Leonard Ellerbe says that David Benavídez must be respectful if he wants to get the fight with Canelo – La Opinion

Leonard Ellerbe, president of Mayweather Promotions, said that David Benavídez dYou must be respectful of Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez if you want to get a chance to face it, since this strategy will not put pressure on the Guadalajara.

In an interview with Fight Hub, Ellerbe explained that – although he does not know what could have happened – Benavídez’s team has to learn to be respectful and know how to play because that way they will not get Canelo Álvarez to accept the fight.

“I read something where someone said that Canelo could feel that they were disrespecting him (from Benavídez’s team). I don’t know, because I don’t know the story behind it. David Benavídez and his promoter are very good people. I say this from my perspective: when you show disrespect you don’t get the check. And I’m not saying that’s what happened, but I know, and from my perspective, that if they disrespect me, they’re not going to eat at this table. They have to learn to be respectful,” he said.

“For a guy like Canelo who is at the highest level of boxing, you have to find a way to get him into the ring with you. And disrespecting him, in case that has happened, is not going to put any kind of pressure on him. He doesn’t care about that, and I don’t blame him. He is a man who has made hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars, who has already fought with everyone. And as for Benavídez, Benavídez needs him, and not the other way around. “You have to know how to play the game.”he added.

It should be noted that Canelo Álvarez commented that he felt disrespected and assured that the only way he will accept the fight with the Mexican Monster is that your promoter offers you a purse of $150 or $200 million dollars, but otherwise he is not interested in facing the Mexican American. For this reason, David Benavídez asked Turki Al-Alshikh, president of the General Entertainment Authority by Royal Decree of Saudi Arabia, for help to make this duel a reality.

For three years, Benavídez has sought in every way possible to attract the attention of the four-division Mexican champion, but he has never had a response. Although fans and many experts in the sport would like to see this great fight, Canelo Álvarez has not shown any real interest and the World Boxing Council (WBC) has not enforced the regulations to order the fight either.

The president of the WBC had declared that the Guadalajara team and Benavídez’s team were in talks, but that they would not intervene until the month of March when the Mexican American will be mandatory and that they would let the promoters do their job. Shortly after it was announced that the Mexican Monster He will rise to 175 pounds to compete for the organization’s interim title against Oleksandr Gvozdyk and Jaime Munguía will now be Canelo Álvarez’s rival for May 4.
