Authorities reported that A Nebraska substitute teacher, who is a mother and married to a high-ranking, Harvard-educated federal government employee, was caught naked in a car with a teenage student.
Erin Ward, 45, allegedly confessed to having sex with the 17-year-old boy, a student at Burke High School where she worked, in the back of the car. She was charged with felony sexual abuse. by a school employee.
The woman has three children and is married to Doug Ward, an employee of the United States Strategic Command, one of the unified combatant commands within the Department of Defense, based at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha. This was revealed by information from the couple’s social networks and LinkedIn profiles.
Ward was arrested early Saturday morning when Douglas County sheriff’s deputies found her allegedly playing with the teen in the car she shared with her husband.
Officers responded to a call about a suspicious car parked in a cul-de-sac around 3 a.m.
When they looked into the vehicle, they saw the substitute teacher naked with the partially clothed teenager in the back seat.according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department.
The panicked teen rushed into the driver’s seat and sped off in the vehicle, but it crashed two blocks later, at which point he got out and fled on foot.
Erin Ward remained in the car, where she got dressed and then allegedly confessed to sleeping with the young man.
Police found her Omaha Public Schools ID and she said she substituted it at several schools in the area, including the teen’s, KLKN reported.
The high school student was later found hiding in a yard wearing only his T-shirt and underwear, according to the sheriff’s office.
Because the teen was over the age of consent (16) in Nebraska, the teacher avoided statutory rape charges but was still charged with felony sexual abuse by a school employee.
