New details revealed about the homicide of Hispanic officer Luis Huesca in Chicago – La Opinion

Authorities They released new details about the homicide of Chicago police officer of Hispanic origin Luis Huescaincluding images of what they believe is the alleged suspect in the crime that occurred early Sunday morning.

Huesca, 30, was killed outside his home in Gage Park after leaving a work shift. Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 3100 block of W. 56th St. and found the officer outside with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

It was initially reported that the officer’s car was apparently stolen, however, Fox News Digital confirmed that it was found nearby shortly after. Police have not said whether the crime is related to the car theft.

Multiple sources have told the ABC affiliate in Chicago that Huesca’s gun was also stolen, although Chicago police have not confirmed this information.

Other sources told FOX32 Chicago that Huesca was shot nearly 20 times with what is believed to have been a firearm with a “switch” attached to turn it into an automatic weapon.

Huesca was still in uniform, but he was covered by other clothing, which Police Superintendent Larry Snelling said is normal for off-duty officers.

Chicago police shared Tuesday surveillance images of a suspect who would be related to the murder of officer Luis Huesca.

The two-minute video posted on social media shows the suspect entering convenience stores on Saturday and walking outside on a sidewalk early Sunday.

Police described the suspect as armed and dangerous.

“We are seeking to identify this individual in connection with the murder of CPD Officer Luis Huesca in the 3100 block of West 56th St. on April 21, 2024. If you have information, please contact the Area One Detective Division at 312-747- 8380 or submit an anonymous tip at http://CPDTip.com”, indicated the police.

Huesca served in the Chicago Police Department for six years and died just two days before his 31st birthday.

The area where Huesca was shot was the same area where his friend and colleague, Officer Andrews Vasquez-Lasso, was shot and killed in the line of duty last year.
